How To Care For You Barker Shoes?

Sharing is caring even when it comes to shoes.
Each pair of Barker shoes made at our Earls Barton factory sees over operations completed during the production process across several stages including Click/Closing, Bottom Stock and the Lasting room before being prepared in the shoe room.
The dedication from our skilled craftspeople may stop there but the maintenance required to prolong every pair of Barker shoes can continue for a lifetime.

General advice on how to best care for your Barker shoes starts from opening the shoebox for the first time, no matter if it’s a men’s or women’s brogue, oxford, loafer or boot we’d advise the first few occasions of wear to be in dry conditions. Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes on successive days as this prolongs their life and keeps your shoes smart and comfortable.
When not wearing your Barker shoes a pair of shoe trees is highly recommended to keep shape. The Barker Shoe Trees are made from aromatic cedar wood which helps absorb moisture and naturally deodorises your footwear. Should your shoes get wet, never attempt to dry near a fire, radiator or hot pipes as this may damage the shoe. Slow natural drying at normal room temperature is best practice as the moisture absorbed by the leather during wear requires at least 24 hours to evaporate naturally.
Cleaning your shoes regularly is exactly the treatment your Barker shoes deserves and starts with a brush or damp cloth to remove all traces or dirt before applying a good quality shoe cream or polish of the correct (most appropriate) color .

Barker Shoe Care Kits contain all the necessary equipment you’ll require in a neat travel case. Alternatively individual shoe polish and/or creams are available online and at our Barker flagship stores where our store teams will be able to assist on shoe care choices.

Should your Barker shoes be at the stage of wear where maintenance just isn’t working the Barker refurbishment service maybe of consideration .

Providing the Barker shoes are Goodyear-welted they can visit the Earls Barton factory for the Barker refurbishment process which sees your shoes put onto their original lasts for the heels and soles to be removed allowing them to go back through the factory to be re-welted, re-soled and re-heeled .

After the refurbishment has been completed your shoes are cleaned, polished and boxed .
